Building on Tough Terrain

Steep, rocky and overgrown. Your project may not be a flat, stable farm field. Our experts have faced it all before. You can have the confidence that comes from knowing that we won’t be practicing on your tough project.

We were contracted by Benson Companies to provide the clearing, earthwork, installation of sanitary, storm and water, curbing and paving the development of 35 town homes in Delaware County, PA. What made this site unique was an abundance of trees and the fact that the houses were to be situated on the side of a steep hill. The project required more than the typical clearing and preparatory work.

To clear the trees we used our Feller Buncher on the six-acre lot, which sped up the process and minimized hazards of felling large trees by hand. Elevation changes so significant required retaining wall construction integrated with earthwork and utility installation. Our project team coordinated this sequence with the developer’s wall contractor to create building pads nestled into the hillside.
